Dachshund Colors / Patterns

We decided that it was necessary to create a page with the colors and patterns that we produce.  That way we are all using the same vocabulary.  Most colors come in a variety of hues from light to dark.  We've tried to include examples using our own dogs and puppies.

Colors: Black and Tan and Black and Cream

"Shaded" essentially means that black hairs are in the coat.  Most of our shaded pups loose the majority of their shading as adults.

Pattern: Dapple

If you click on the picture above it will expand and be easier to see.  There are several examples of dapples in this gallery.  Often times, red and cream will hide dapple, and the only visible sign will be blue in the eye.  Dapple is the only pattern that can produce blue eyes (or partial blue eyes) in dachshunds.  However, please note that we cannot guarantee eye color.

Pattern: Piebald

(We also produce long and short/smooth hair pups.  Examples can be seen above.)

Teddy and Lucy are our 2 wire hair dachshunds.  They are siblings so they will not be bred together.  We can only produce red and black and tan wire hair dachshunds currently.  We can also have dapple reds or dapple black and tans!
